Short Description:
If it is true that management theory is a becoming a compendium of dead ideas (The Economist, 17.12.2016), then one action that would reverse the trend is the interaction of management research and its neighbouring disciplines. In this spirit, the European Academy of Management and the European Sociological Association are pleased to co-sponsor the Management Theory and Social Theory track at the European Academy of Management Confrerence 2018 in Reykjavík, which invites theoretical and conceptual contributions from scholars with backgrounds in management, sociology, economics, and further social sciences. Interdisciplinary by nature, social theory provides a mirror in which to reflect both management science and its reflection theories, and the aim of this track clearly is to turn social theoretical feedback of all paradigmatic backgrounds into a source of inspiration for management theories of the 21st century.

Selected papers will be invited for submission to partnering journals. Confirmed partnerships include, but are not limited to the following options:
- Management and social theory-focused papers will be considered for inclusion in a dedicated special section of the Scandinavian Journal of Management (SSCI 2.054, Scopus, ABS**, CNRS**, FNEGE**, VHB***).
- For heterodox economics papers, there is a cooperation agreement with the guest editors of a Symposium on “Economics and sociology: Towards new approaches in heterodoxy” to be published in the Review of Political Economy (Scopus, ABS**, CNRS**).
As always, presentation at the conference tracks or sub-theme will not guarantee acceptance of a manuscript for publication in the partner journals. Also, attending the tracks or sub-theme is by no means a precondition for acceptance of a manuscripts for the special issue or section.
